Duck, Duck, Goose!

The cool thing about dinosaurs is that no one can tell you that you colored them wrong. So who can say that my favorite duck-bill, Parasaurolophus, didn't look like a Canada Goose?

Another Doctor Appointment

I'm a week late at getting these posted, but we held another session of Dr. Sketchy, this time at Hamtramck's Cafe 1923 for the opening of HATCH's annual art show. Muana was once again our model. Here are my ink and water color drawings from the evening:

Book update: I finished the layout and sent it off to the printer for a proof!

Makin' the cut

I'm trying to come up with some original Ellie On Planet X for my upcoming book of art that I mentioned below. Here are a few I did that I'm not really sure about. Something I've been painfully aware of is that I have a portfolio full of characters for this story, but none of them seem to be doing anything. They just kind of stand around and pose. So I really need to drop them into an environment where they interact with one another or there's a story going on. The illustration below tries to do that but I'm not sure if the joke is clear. Regardless, I don't think either of these will make the cut. Gotta come up with something though. I'd like to have these printed before SPACE! (Small Press and Alternative Arts Expo in Columbus, OH) in April!

Look-y-Look

I've been thinking about putting out a book for sale full of illustrations and sketches from the past few years. Paperback, maybe about forty pages, full color, seven by seven in size. Here's a cover I worked up for it.

Sketchy In Action!

Dr. Sketchy was visited by Metro Times photographer Kelly Lockwood who took some snaps for this week's Velvet Rope feature. My mug didn't make it into the printed version (I'm just not pretty enough), but here I am, pencil in mouth, bowing before my muse. Look at that concentration.

Here's our model Demonique in her boxing gear. You can almost make out Azucena peeking out from behind the speaker, sitting with Matt Feazell.

My t-shirt made it into the Times though. I'm representin'!

Tough Gals

I just got back from this month's Dr. Sketchy session featuring model Demonique Damzelle. She's one of my favorite models and I'm always pleased with the results I get when drawing her. She's got a sort of classic comic book gal look to her. Her theme tonight was Tough Gals. Take a look see:

Catch That Beat!

This is a logo design for a conference where business people learn to work more efficiently and is tied into the use of African drums.
Suddenly it's looking really "early nineties" to me.

Next Sketchy Session

Here's a graphic that Dr. Sketchy Ringmaster Sean Bieri put together announcing this month's session. That's one of my illustrations he used in there. I'm all giddy that he'd pick my stuff to advertise the group. I dig that old cabaret marquee look he worked up too. Thanks Sean!
